O que eu acho impressionante é o raciocínio circular e aporístico dos intelectuais de esquerda. Se não prendem o político: no Brasil só ladrão de galinha vai preso, pois as artimanhas legais são inúmeras e favorecem quem tem o melhor aparato de defesa. Se, por outro lado, prendem o político: não podemos atropelar o Estado de Direito, imagine se fosse com você, cidadão comum, etc.

What I find amazing is the circular and aporistic reasoning of leftwing intellectuals. If politicians are not arrested: in Brazil only chicken thieves go to jail, because the legal tricks are numberless and favor who has the better defense aparatus. If, on the other hand, politicians are arrested: we cannot run over the Rule of Law, imagine if this happened to you, ordinary citizen, etc.

Não sei se alguém já passou pela seguinte situação (eu, algumas vezes): você está num lugar onde moram idosos, e desconfia que a pessoa que está iniciando conversa com você sofre de demência, mas como você é cortês, acha que pode manter a conversação. Infelizmente esse não é o caso, e após alguns minutos a situação sai do controle e a conversa da pessoa torna-se completamente alucinada, envolvendo você de maneiras imprevistas com pedidos absurdos, desrespeitando a distância corporal mínima para o seu conforto, e, o que é pior, com perspectiva de prolongamento infinito.
Parafraseando o ensaísta americano Christopher Caldwell: primeiro você atendeu uma demanda das minorias porque elas eram fracas demais; agora, você tem que fazê-lo porque elas são fortes demais.

I don't know if anyone has ever been through the following situation (I, a few times): you're in a home for the elderly, and suspects that the person who is starting a conversation with you suffers from dementia, but, since you are polite, you decide that you can keep a conversation with him or her. Unfortunately, that is not the case: after a few minutes the situation gets out of hand and the person's discourse becomes completely hallucinatory, involving you in unpredicted ways with absurd requests, disrespecting the minimally comfortable corporal distance between you and him (or her), and, what is worst, with a prospect of infinite duration.
Paraphrasing American essayist Christopher Caldwell: first you have complied with a minorities' demand because they were too weak; now you must do it because they are too strong.

Ater-se ao poder visível é insuficiente. Eles são apenas os facilitadores, e, ocasionalmente, a bucha de canhão. Teorias de conspiração são sempre manifestações de sanidade, mesmo quando resultam falsas. A primeira coisa buscada pelo poder é a auto-ocultação, por motivos óbvios. Sim, o grande capital sempre prevalece sobre os agentes políticos, mas a coisa não para aí. Se você seguir a cadeia de poder até o fim, vai chegar ao mais poderoso de todos, e por conseguinte absolutamente invisível desde sempre e para sempre.

Sticking to visible power is not enough. These people are only the facilitators, and, occasionally, cannon fodder. Conspiracy theories are always manifestations of sanity, even when they turn out to be false. The first thing sought after by power is self-ensconcement, for obvious reasons. Yes, big capital always prevails over political agents, but it doesn't stop there. If you follow the power chain to the end, you will get to the most powerful of them all, and therefore absolutely invisible from the beginning of time and until the end of it.

O conceito moderno de democracia, fruto de mentes ilustradas em História e Ciência Política, mas não necessariamente em Antropologia, não me parece, em si mesmo, democrático, mas antes uma imposição dessa elite pensante às demais classes sociais.

The modern concept of democracy, being the product of minds illustrated in History and Political Science, but not necessarily in Anthropology, does not seem to me, in itself, democratic, but rather an imposition of that thinking elite on the other social classes.
