A Passage in Searle's "Speech Acts"
From the 1969 edition (I do not know whether there are others), page 64:
"For assertions, the preparatory conditions include the fact that the hearer must have some basis for supposing the asserted proposition is true, the sincerity condition is that he must believe it to be true, (...)" [Italics are mine]
In the Livraria Almedina's Portuguese edition of 1981, we find the word in italics translated as ouvinte, which is a faithful translation.
No notes of any kind are present in either edition relating to this particular passage.
Ah, just in case anybody is not able to see what the problem is about the passage in question -- no, that could not happen.
